Discovering Da Nang Downtown – The Heart of a Dynamic City

Da Nang Downtown refers to the bustling, metropolitan area surrounding the Han River, primarily within the Hai Chau district. This central hub showcases the modern development and lively culture of the city, transitioning from a commercial center by day to a vibrant entertainment zone after sunset. Visitors explore a wide range of attractions, from historical sites and museums to modern amusement parks and spectacular bridge displays.

I. Key Landmarks and Nightlife

The downtown area comes alive at night, primarily centered along the scenic Han River waterfront.

  • The Dragon Bridge (Cau Rong): This magnificent structure dominates the skyline. You must plan your visit for weekend evenings, as the bridge performs its famous fire and water-spitting show every Saturday and Sunday at 9:00 PM.

  • Han River Bridge (Cau Song Han): This is Vietnam’s first swing bridge, a marvel of engineering. It regularly swings open in the early morning hours to allow ship traffic to pass, though tourists typically enjoy viewing it fully closed.

  • Bach Dang Walking Street: This bustling promenade runs along the river, connecting key areas. It provides the perfect spot for an evening stroll, offering excellent views of the illuminated bridges.

  • Da Nang Downtown Theme Park (formerly Asia Park): Located on 2/9 Street, this park features rides, cultural zones representing 10 Asian countries, and the Sun Wheel, one of the world’s tallest Ferris wheels. You can enjoy the amusement park and impressive live shows, such as the Awaken River Show and Symphony of River Show.

II. Culture, History, and Shopping

Visitors find rich history and local commerce intertwined throughout the city center.

  • Museum of Cham Sculpture (Bao Tang Dieu Khac Cham): This essential museum houses the world’s most extensive collection of Cham sculptures, relics from the ancient Champa Kingdom. This visit offers deep historical context for the region.

  • Han Market (Cho Han): You can experience the heart of local commerce at this major market. Here, you will find everything from fresh produce and local street food to souvenirs and Vietnamese textiles. Bargaining is expected for non-food items.

  • Da Nang Cathedral (Nha Tho Con Ga): The iconic pink church stands near the river, welcoming visitors with its distinct French Gothic architecture and historical significance.

III. Essential Visitor Information

Most of the downtown area is freely accessible, with fees applying only to specific attractions and shows.

  • General Address: The key attractions concentrate around Bach Dang Street and Tran Phu Street along the Han River.

  • Da Nang Downtown Theme Park (Reference):

    • Opening Hours: Typically 3:00 PM – 10:00 PM daily.

    • Entrance Fee: The park generally offers free entry, but you must purchase tickets for individual attractions, rides, or major shows (e.g., Sun Wheel, Symphony of River show). An All-In-One (AIO) ticket is also available.

  • Museum of Cham Sculpture: A small entrance fee applies. Check the current operating hours before your visit.

  • Cultural Note: Vietnamese street food vendors set up along the river and on side streets, providing affordable and authentic dining experiences. Embrace the lively atmosphere and the local cuisine.

Fantastic little find, so bright and colourful. My little boy (7) had a blast. You are not allowed to take water or food in but it is not expensive in the park. Bottled water and fizzy pop is around 20k VND, snacks are sold around the park too which are equally inexpensive. We paid for the unlimited tickets at 250k VND for each adult and 125k VND for kiddo - which in comparison to UK theme parks is really cheap. I'm not convinced we kicked the butt out of the 'unlimited' rides but we certainly had a good time. Highly recommended!

Great theme park! Went on a Monday afternoon which was pretty quiet..no long queues and lots of space to walk around and take photos. Great food and drink stalls around to keep you going all evening. Toilets are super clean and fresh too!

Downtown Đà Nẵng was absolute value for money! The price we paid was more than fair considering how brilliant the rides were. It was lovely being able to stroll around in the evening when it’s cooler — the atmosphere really comes alive after dark. The view from the Sun Wheel is pretty sweet and gives a great perspective of the city lights. And don’t miss the Queen Cobra — hands down one of the best rides I’ve ever been on! Highly recommended for thrill-seekers and families alike.

I honestly don't understand why everyone doesn't visit this park. The structures, monuments, and grounds are all fantastic and very well-maintained, and the best part is that you can get in for free if you just want to walk around and explore all the areas. However, it's worth paying for the pass and enjoying the rides. The views of the city from the Ferris wheel at night are spectacular. If you go with kids, they'll have a blast. And like everything in Vietnam, it's incredibly cheap: for less than $10, you can spend a great afternoon and support the upkeep of this beautiful place.

Pretty decent park – especially if you’re not a fan of crowds.
There were literally no lines at all – it felt like we had the whole park to ourselves. On every ride, it was either just a couple of other people or no one else at all. Most of the attractions were closed, but honestly, we went there mainly for one thing – The Queen Cobra. And it didn’t disappoint – super thrilling, a bit scary in a good way, and definitely worth it.

There are more rides available for kids, and I think they’d enjoy the park more overall. If you’re planning to go on the Ferris wheel, do it after sunset or around golden hour – the city views are way better with the lights on or with the sun going down.

The park itself is really beautiful, clean, and well-designed – definitely some cool spots to take photos or just walk around. But don’t expect to spend a whole day there – 2 to 4 hours tops is more than enough, especially since a lot of stuff isn’t operating.

Important tip: bring cash. None of the food or shops inside the park accept cards, which was a bit inconvenient.

All in all, it’s a nice park, more suited for families with kids, but I’d still recommend getting the ticket with rides – even if it’s just for the Queen Cobra. Totally worth it for that one ride alone.
