Ho Chi Minh Museum Da Nang: A Journey Through Vietnamese Resilience

The Ho Chi Minh Museum, Da Nang Branch (Bao Tang Ho Chi Minh Chi Nhanh Da Nang), offers a focused and educational experience on the life, revolutionary career, and simple virtue of Ho Chi Minh, known affectionately as “Uncle Ho.” The museum shares its campus with the Military Zone 5 Museum (Bao Tang Quan Khu 5), providing visitors with a double dose of Vietnamese history, focusing on the Central region’s crucial role during the 20th-century conflicts.

I. The Life and Legacy of Ho Chi Minh

The main museum building details Ho Chi Minh’s extensive life through photos, documents, and artifacts. Visitors can trace his journey from a young revolutionary to the nation’s leader.

  • Exhibitions: The indoor displays showcase his revolutionary activities, leadership philosophy, and personal life, emphasizing his commitment to national independence. You can see personal items and gifts he received, reflecting his simple lifestyle and widespread respect.

  • The Replica Stilt House: A major highlight features a faithful reproduction of Ho Chi Minh’s stilt house and a peaceful surrounding garden, originally located in Hanoi. This replica allows visitors to imagine his humble daily existence, offering a sense of his accessible nature.

II. The Military Zone 5 Museum Complex

The complex integrates a separate museum dedicated to the history of the 5th Military Division (Quan Khu 5), which covers the Central Highlands and South Central Coast regions.

  • War History: This section chronicles the military struggles of the local forces from the French resistance to the Vietnam War (known in Vietnam as the American War). It features captured US and French weaponry, military equipment, and historical photographs.

  • Outdoor Display: The expansive outdoor area exhibits large military vehicles and aircraft, allowing history enthusiasts to examine tanks, helicopters, and artillery up close. For instance, you will find a US M48 Patton tank and various aircraft used during the conflicts.

III. Essential Visitor Information

Plan your trip with these practical details to ensure a seamless visit.

  • Address: No. 1 Duy Tan Street (Duong Duy Tan), Hoa Thuan Dong Ward, Hai Chau District, Da Nang City. The museum sits near the city center and shares a campus with the Military Zone 5 Museum.

  • Operating Hours: The museum typically opens daily with morning and afternoon sessions, generally from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. However, confirm the specific hours before you go, as some sources indicate a midday closure.

  • Entrance Fee and Phone: International visitors generally pay a small admission fee, often around 20,000 VND or 60,000 VND, which usually covers both museums. The variance suggests fees may change or apply differently to the separate museum parts; therefore, have a small amount of cash ready. We advise contacting the museum at its reported number, (+84) 236 3624 931, to confirm the latest fee structure.

  • Best Time to Visit: Visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the mid-day heat, especially when exploring the outdoor military exhibits. Allow at least 1.5 to 2 hours to fully cover both the Ho Chi Minh section and the Military Zone 5 Museum.

If you're a military enthusiast, this is the place for you. The M41, S-75, and M107 at the entrance really captivated me. Please note that there's no air conditioning in the indoor exhibition hall, only fans.

After doing the DMZ tour we're interested to understand more about the Vietnam war history. 60k D entry fee for two museums; Ho Chi Minh and the fifth military zone museum. One can buy the tickets at the entry gate and park your car/motorbike inside. Display of weapons, aircraft, tanks and carriage in the open area you cannot overlook. Inside have very informative and thought provoking photographs and artifacts. In the middle of two museums there is a replica of Ho Chi Minh's house. We visited in the afternoon. Almost no people. Enjoyed our visit. WC available. Bring water. I didn't see any water refilling machine and it's hot inside.

Excellent. Two buildings. I just spent 2.5+ hours at the Ho Chi Minh Museum which is two buildings. One is three stories about the fight for independence from French colonialism followed by the fight for independence from US imperialism. The other building is one story in detail on Ho Chi Minh. Very interesting. And with all this fighting for independence, the Vietnamese people are incredibly friendly to everyone.

As a display of very interesting features from the wars with the Americans , the objectives on display 😀 👍 are really amazing, and they are restored to a very high quality for further generations to enjoy 😉, the whole museum is very large with a wide area to look around, the historical artifacts are of very high historical importance ! We really enjoyed reading 📚 the history of the veitnams long history, so if you get the opportunity to visit what I would consider one of the best war museums in veitnam, and it's only 60.000 veitnams dong ! 😉
