Muoi Cuong Cocoa Garden: A Sweet Discovery in Cần Thơ's Countryside

The Muoi Cuong Cocoa Garden (Vườn Ca Cao Mười Cương) invites you to experience the complete journey of cocoa, from tree to handcrafted chocolate. Nestled in the fruit-rich Phong Điền (Phong Dien) District, this family-run farm stands out as a unique agricultural and cultural stop near Cần Thơ City. Visitors love this destination because it offers both a lush, green escape and an interactive educational experience.

Address: Cơ sở sản xuất cacao thủ công, Mỹ Khánh, Phong Điền, Cần Thơ, Vietnam.

I. A History Rooted in Passion

The farm’s story begins in the 1960s when the current owner, Mr. Mười Cương (Muoi Cuong), or his father, first introduced cocoa cultivation to the region using seeds brought from Malaysia. Through decades of dedication and adapting to the Mekong Delta’s climate, the family developed a successful organic farm. It has become one of the region’s oldest and most renowned cocoa plantations. Mr. Mười Cương often greets visitors personally, sharing passionate stories about the history and the challenging process of growing and processing the beans.

II. Interactive Farm Tour and Tasting

Muoi Cuong Cocoa Garden provides a hands-on, educational tour that guides you through the entire chocolate-making process.

  • Exploring the Grove: You will walk through the verdant cocoa trees, seeing the colorful cocoa pods grow directly on the trunks. The guide explains the different varieties of cocoa and the nuances of the harvest.

  • From Bean to Bar: The tour showcases the critical stages of production, including fermentation, drying, grinding, and blending. This allows you to understand the labor-intensive work required to transform a bitter bean into sweet, final products.

  • The Tasting Experience: Naturally, no visit is complete without tasting the products! Your entrance fee includes sampling a warm, freshly prepared cocoa drink and homemade chocolate. You can also purchase various handcrafted cocoa products, such as pure cocoa powder, cocoa butter, and the farm’s signature cocoa wine.

III. Essential Visitor Information

We advise all travelers to confirm details directly, as small farm operations may change schedules occasionally.

  • Entrance Fee (Giá vé vào cổng): The typical entry ticket costs around 50,000 VND (Vietnamese Dong) to 80,000 VND per person. This price usually covers the guided farm visit, a sample cocoa drink, and a chocolate sample.

  • Opening Hours (Giờ mở cửa): The farm generally opens daily, often from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM. If you wish to visit in the afternoon, you should contact the farm directly in advance to arrange a special visit.

  • Best Time to Visit: The cocoa fruit starts ripening around October and November, offering the best visual experience, but the farm welcomes visitors year-round.

  • Contact Phone (Số điện thoại): You can contact the farm owner at +84 939 427 589 (Mr. Muoi Cuong’s number may be shared by local tour operators). We recommend calling to confirm opening times and availability.

  • Location Tip: The farm is located about 10–12 km from Cần Thơ center, near the Mỹ Khánh (My Khanh) Tourist Village. You can easily reach the garden by motorbike, taxi, or as part of a countryside cycling tour.

This cocoa garden is doing a great job in tourism. The owner speaks English, so he can introduce his products and explain how he grows cocoa trees. I really enjoyed my time here—walking around the garden, listening to his story, and learning how cocoa is made. They also offer cocoa-based alcohol, which is quite interesting to try.

Great visit for such a cheap price! The owner, Binh, explained all the process (in a good English), from the cacao flower to the final products. Everything is organic!
You can taste a hot or cold chocolate and walk around the cacao farm.
There are very few cacao farms in Southern Vietnam, so I recommend this visit!

We had a wonderful tour through the cocoa farm. Mr. Bean showed us around the farm, told us the history of how he became a cocoa farmer and showed us the different steps of making chocolate. We bought a box of the chocolate candy after the tasting, highly recommend!

What a great experience! We just showed up without a tour guide and the owner of the farm took us through each step of the chocolate making process and explained the history of the farm. We got to taste the chocolate at the end, which was amazing.

We visited back in July and we probably paid around 70-80k VND per person. I don’t understand how others can say the money isn’t worth it tbh, it was one of my favourite experiences in Vietnam, mostly because Mr. Bean himself was so well-informed and passionate about his craft and things he has achieved. We later realised he was one of “the few” people in Vietnam who spoke English well 🙃

We got to see different stages of cocoa beans and cocoa making process, we could stroll around the farm and afterwards we got to taste homemade chocolate and cocoa drinks as well (my personal favourite was the hot cocoa). We also tried an “experimental” cider made from cocoa beans which tasted great, we regretted not having more cash with us as we definitely would have bought some products to support the cocoa farm 💕
