Đầm Market (Chợ Đầm) stands as a vibrant and bustling hub in the heart of Nha Trang. It functions as the city’s largest market, providing a fascinating glimpse into local life and commerce. The unique architecture and sheer variety of goods make it an essential stop for any traveler seeking an authentic Vietnamese shopping experience.

Architecture and History

The market’s distinctive appearance immediately catches the eye. Architects designed the main two-story structure in a circular shape, resembling a blossoming lotus flower, which serves as a symbol of Vietnamese culture and beauty. The name “Đầm” (meaning “swamp” in Vietnamese) originates from its original location on a reclaimed swampy area in the early 20th century. The current structure was built in the 1970s and has since become an architectural icon of the city, accommodating thousands of shoppers daily.

What to Buy and See

Đầm Market divides its numerous stalls into three main areas, catering to both local daily needs and tourist purchases.

  • The Central Area: This section primarily sells clothes, household goods, and various consumer products. Tourists find a great selection of inexpensive souvenirs here, including seashell crafts, traditional Vietnamese conical hats (Nón Lá), bamboo products, and colorful fabrics.

  • The Left Wing (Seafood Market): This is the go-to section for fresh and dried seafood. Vendors display an impressive array of freshly caught fish, shrimp, crab, and squid early in the morning. Dried seafood specialties, such as dried squid, dried shrimp, and Nha Trang fish sauce (Nước Mắm), are popular gifts to take home.

  • The Food Stalls and Specialties: Around the perimeter and in dedicated areas, visitors find local street food stalls. Here, you can sample local specialties like Bánh Xèo (savory pancake), various noodle soups, and local sweets and tropical fruits, thus providing a delicious break from shopping.

Today, my experience was great when I bought a pair of my favorite shoes at a very cheap price and very good quality. This shoe store is located on the 2nd floor, opposite the Korean T-shirt stores… You will not need to buy at the listed price because the store owner is very friendly and always gives the cheapest price

Good day market in Nha Trang - plenty of stall holders with a wide selection of products over two floors and more outside.

Three floors, the ground has two main categories, one section is seasonings and foods (dry fruit ), another is pearls and all kinds of stone for wearing. Crafts as well. There are many shops for clothes and leather products in the second floor. The third floor is similar to the second one, but many shops are closed.

We’d seen quite a few reviews and decided to check out Dam Market. It’s a big space with rows of stalls selling everything from dried seafood and snacks to clothes, souvenirs, and household items.

There’s definitely a bit of repetition in what’s being sold, with many vendors offering similar products, especially in the food and clothing sections. We didn’t stay too long – not sure if it was the heat, the crowds, or just market fatigue after visiting so many recently. That said, it’s still a fun browse if you’re into haggling or scouting for some local finds.

If you’re nearby or want a bargain, it’s worth popping in
