Tà Cú Mountain, or Núi Tà Cú, stands as a prominent spiritual and natural landmark in Binh Thuan Province, located approximately 30 kilometers southeast of Phan Thiet City. The Majestic Reclining Buddha
The primary draw of the mountain is the massive Reclining Buddha statue (Tượng Phật Nhập Niết Bàn).
Awe-Inspiring Scale: This colossal figure measures an impressive 49 meters in length and 7 to 11 meters in height, earning it the distinction of being the longest reclining Buddha statue in Vietnam. Completed in 1962, the white-washed, reinforced cement statue depicts the Buddha entering Nirvana, symbolizing peace and enlightenment.
The Pilgrim’s Ascent: Visitors reach the summit area via a cable car ride. From the cable car station, a moderately challenging climb of about 100 stone steps through the forest leads directly to the foot of the magnificent statue. The surrounding ancient trees and serene atmosphere enhance the spiritual experience.
Pagodas and Spiritual History
Tà Cú Mountain houses a significant complex of ancient pagodas.
Linh Son Truong Tho Pagoda: This main pagoda, also known as the Upper Pagoda, was founded in the late 19th century by the renowned monk Tran Huu Duc. The architecture blends harmoniously with the dense forest, creating a quiet sanctuary for prayer and reflection. Visitors admire the traditional Nguyễn Dynasty architectural style.
Long Doan Pagoda: The complex also includes the Long Doan Pagoda (Lower Pagoda), which adds to the site’s rich spiritual heritage. Buddhist practitioners consider the entire complex highly sacred, drawing many local and international pilgrims.
Getting There and Visitor Logistics
Visitors have two distinct options for reaching the pagoda and statue complex:
The Cable Car (Recommended): The scenic cable car ride provides a fast, comfortable 10-15 minute ascent, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the dragon fruit farms and coastline below. This option suits most travelers and those short on time.
The Hike: Adventurous visitors can opt to climb the more than 1,000 winding stone steps through the lush forest. This challenging trek takes approximately 2 to 3 hours one way and is ideal for fit hikers who enjoy exploring the mountain’s diverse flora and fauna.

Entrance and Fees: There is an entrance fee to the tourist area at the mountain’s base, typically around 50,000 VND per adult.
Cable Car Round-Trip: The ticket for the cable car is purchased separately, usually around 225,000 VND per adult (often bundled with the entrance fee). Electric car service is also available to transport guests from the entrance to the cable car station.
Operating Hours: The Tà Cú Mountain Tourist Area typically operates from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM.
Essential Tips: Wear comfortable shoes, whether you choose to hike or ride the cable car, as a moderate climb is still required at the top. Dress modestly when visiting the pagodas. Consider visiting during the dry season (December to April) for the clearest views.
