Museum of Tarot in Cần Thơ: Unlocking the Secrets of the Arcane

The Museum of Tarot (Bảo Tàng Tarot) offers a unique and unexpected experience in Cần Thơ, taking visitors deep into the history and artistry of divination. This specialized museum showcases an extensive collection of tarot cards, oracle decks, and related artifacts that attract both spiritual seekers and art enthusiasts. It represents a captivating deviation from the region’s traditional cultural and historical sites.

Address: 44 Đ. Nguyễn Khuyến, Tân An, Ninh Kiều, Cần Thơ 900000, Vietnam.

I. A World-Class Collection and Core Themes

The museum’s founder, Dr. Ngô (Ngo), has meticulously curated a collection spanning centuries, with some pieces dating back as far as the 15th century. The exhibits cover the global history and evolution of cartomancy (divination using cards).

  • Thematic Layout: The museum organizes its displays over three floors, dedicating each floor to a main theme: Lithotherapy (the use of stones and crystals), Cartomancy (the art of reading cards), and Demonology (the study of demons and beliefs). This structured approach provides an insightful look at these esoteric topics.

  • Rare Artifacts: You will find over 2,000 items, including rare, antique, and reproduction tarot decks from various traditions—European, Byzantine, and Asian. The collection also features amulets, stones, and other artifacts that illustrate the connections between tarot, art, and religion.

  • Owner’s Expertise: Dr. Ngô frequently offers personalized tours and shares his deep knowledge of the tarot’s history, making the visit highly informative for those who seek detailed insights.

II. Cultural Experience and Educational Opportunities

The Museum of Tarot aims to be more than just a display space; it functions as a center for learning and cultural exchange.

  • Learning and Workshops: The museum regularly hosts events, workshops, and free monthly courses on tarot reading, allowing visitors to actively engage with the practice.

  • Unique Atmosphere: The small, niche setting creates an intimate and sometimes mysterious ambiance, which many visitors find highly appealing. Furthermore, a small café or Salon de Thé on-site allows guests to enjoy coffee or tea and reflect on the intriguing exhibits.

III. Essential Visitor Information

As this is a unique private collection, you should note the specific requirements before visiting.

  • Mandatory Reservation: The museum strongly recommends or even requires visitors to make a reservation at least two days in advance, as they limit the number of people per session to a maximum of five to ensure a quality, personalized experience.

  • Entrance Fee (Lệ phí vào cửa): The ticket price is Flexible, and a staff member usually guides you. Please contact the museum directly to confirm the current admission cost and whether it includes the personalized tour.

  • Opening Hours: The museum generally opens daily, often from 10:00 AM–12:00 PM and 1:00 PM–5:00 PM. However, hours frequently change, and they close on the last and first days of both the solar and lunar New Year. Always call ahead to verify the schedule.

  • Contact Phone: You can reach the museum at +84 916 416 409 or +84 7103823797 to book your visit or ask questions.

  • Website: We suggest checking their website (http://www.museum-tarot.org/) for the most current information regarding exhibitions and events.

More of a coffee shop with dusty, cramped, poorly lit exhibits. There's an upstairs with additional exhibits for a hefty price. However, if you agree to give a 5 star review, you can see it for FREE! Don't trust those reviews.

This is an extensive collection with fascinating pieces. It’s a very tiny place on 3 floors (Vietnam-style) with interesting things in every corner. Owners were very nice. The attached coffee shop was having renovations done, but they let us in anyway.

It is an absolute delight to listen to the owner of the museum, who personally does a very informative tour of the whole place. You can clearly see that he is passionate about what he is talking about.
The collection of Tarot cards (as well as other cards, stones, and even amulets) is astonishing and ever-growing.
This is truly a hidden gem of Can Tho.
