Cat Ba National Park is the ecological heart of Cat Ba Island, a UNESCO-recognized Biosphere Reserve known for its incredible biodiversity, dramatic limestone karst landscape, and a unique combination of terrestrial and marine ecosystems. It offers nature lovers and adventure seekers a chance to explore Vietnam’s wild side.

General Overview and Ecosystem

Ecosystem: The park is unique as the first protected area in Vietnam to include both land () and marine () components, encompassing tropical rainforests, mangroves, limestone karsts, and coral reefs.

Flagship Species: The park is the last natural habitat for the critically endangered Cat Ba Langur (Trachypithecus poliocephalus), one of the rarest primates in the world, with only a small number of individuals surviving here.

Activities and Main Attractions

The park offers several well-marked trails and unique sites for exploration:.

Trekking to Ngu Lam Peak: The most popular activity. A challenging hike (approx. hours round trip) that leads to the summit, offering a spectacular panoramic view of the vast limestone landscape and the forested valleys below.

Caves Exploration:

  • Trung Trang Cave: A large, easily accessible cave located along the main road, showcasing impressive stalactite formations.

  • Hospital Cave (Quân Y Cave): A fascinating historical site that served as a secret, bomb-proof hospital and refuge for the Việt Cộng during the American War, complete with rooms, a theater, and operating room built inside the cave.

Cycling/Trekking to Việt Hải Village: Visitors can take a longer trek or bike ride through the valley and surrounding hills to reach Việt Hải, a small, peaceful village nestled within the park, offering a glimpse into local life.

The trek takes about an hour to reach the top. The trekking experience in itself was good but the view in the end didn’t feel much rewarding personally. +1 for keeping the park free from trash.

The tour guide is very nice and skillful. His name is Anh and he can edit the video and make a very
good video tearing the tracking break time, even though it was not included in the, and he support whole journey. He will provide a lot of things if you do not have for example like some Band-Aid and also give enough time and let you to enjoy the whole journey.
the national Park is amazing you can see different landscape. the jungle the rock road, some very narrow street, muddy road and the pond different kind of animal insect. For example, a lot of spider and even snake.
The food also amazing and valuable, and you can refill all your energy in that village After that, you will do the cycling very beautiful scenery along the road. then we'll take a boat.
The boat will go through a very long way and you enjoy the scenery along the way you won't feel the time you won't feel the distance because it's too beautiful
And we also did the kayaking, which was great and then swimming also amazing.
Encourage you to join this trip.

Of you want to enter the Walking area, tot need to buy a ticket (120.000), it is also the entrance fee for the caves 1km from the entrance. The park is old, but the nature is beautiful, the "zoo" has some rabbits, Ducks and other easy animals, they don't look happy.
The walk to the top is steep, hot and slippery, but real Vietnam jungle and worth it.

We were at this national park the other day. It was a rainy day, hence walking and climbing was not easy as some areas were slippery. Nice view and a nice and peaceful place. The museum was also nice and informative.

Definitely worth doing when on Cat Ba. It is quite a difficult hike in terms of gradient. Most of the track is quite well formed steps, with only a couple of short areas where you negotiate some rocky bits.
Go early in the morning as it's a hot humid climb, and take 2l water per person.
