Eo Gió (“Wind’s Strait” or “Wind’s Waist”) is a majestic natural wonder in Bình Định Province, captivating visitors with its dramatic coastal landscape and rugged beauty. The site earns its name from its geography: high, towering rocky mountains form an arc-shaped basin that encircles the sea, creating a funnel that powerfully draws the wind.

A Natural Masterpiece and Geological Wonder

Eo Gió stands out as a geological masterpiece, showcasing the raw power of nature.

  • Unique Formation: The landscape features rock cliffs that dramatically protrude into the sea, forming a sheltered, crescent-shaped strait. Over millennia, the wind and waves have sculpted the granite rocks into various strange and marvelous shapes.

  • The Coastal Walkway: The most iconic feature is the beautiful walking path that snakes along the mountainside. This winding path allows visitors to safely traverse the cliffs, providing incredible panoramic views of the ocean and the Nhơn Lý peninsula.

  • Da De Beach: At the base of the cliffs lies Bãi Đá Đẻ (Hatching Rock Beach), famous for its smooth, egg-shaped stones in various colors, polished by the constant motion of the waves.

Visitor Activities and Best Experiences

Eo Gió provides a range of activities, appealing to both adventurous explorers and casual sightseers.

  • Sunrise and Sunset Viewing: Many travelers regard Eo Gió as one of the best locations in Vietnam to witness both the sunrise and the sunset. The elevated position offers an unobstructed view as the sun paints the sky with vibrant colors over the sea.

  • Trekking and Photography: The coastal path is ideal for scenic walks and photography. Visitors actively trek along the mountain slopes, finding countless viewpoints for capturing the breathtaking scenery. You can also explore small caves and rock crevices along the shoreline.

  • Water Sports and Nearby Sites: As part of a typical itinerary, visitors often combine a trip to Eo Gió with a boat excursion to Kỳ Co Beach, which offers snorkeling, swimming, and various water sports like jet-skiing and banana boat canoeing.

Practical Visitor Information

Planning a trip to Eo Gió is straightforward, though a clear understanding of the logistics is beneficial.

  • Location: Eo Gió is situated in Lý Lương Hamlet, Nhơn Lý Commune, Quy Nhơn City. It is located approximately 20-25 kilometers northeast of central Quy Nhơn.

  • Getting There: Travelers typically cross the Thị Nại Bridge—a long sea-crossing bridge—from Quy Nhơn, then continue toward the Nhơn Lý commune. Renting a motorbike is a popular option and takes about 30 to 45 minutes.

  • Entry Fee: Visitors must pay a small admission fee to access the scenic area. The current fee is generally around 25,000 VNĐ per person (approximately $1 USD). This fee helps maintain the coastal walking path and the site’s facilities.

  • Operating Hours: The site is typically open from early morning until late afternoon (often 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM), allowing ample time to catch the best light.

  • Local Culture: The nearby Nhơn Lý fishing village offers an authentic glimpse into the life of Binh Dinh’s coastal communities. You can enjoy fresh, local seafood at the village restaurants.

Very nice view of the ocean, rocky beaches, and probably more breathtaking during sunrise and sunset. Got there around 7:30am.
Cost 22k VND ($0.85) to enter. Should've been free, but it doesn't seem to be maintained by the government, but rather some private enterprise.

Can't explain the beauty of this place. It was extremely gorgeous. Not many tourists were around. Plenty of space around to soak in the beauty of the area. Multiple photo taking spots. Go down a little and you can see the waves crashing and making relaxing sounds. You won't find any food stalls there, which is a great thing I think. So take your water bottle with you. This place is around 40 minutes ride away from the city center. Book a grab bike and road leading to this place is fantastic too. You'll see a lot of windmills on the way and a lot of open space...... I saw mini sand dunes as well on the way.

A popular tourist spot in Binh Dinh province.

Best to go early in a sunny day to avoid crowd. Normally, there are many tourist here so a bit hard to take photos.

Free entry when we came in May 2022. Spacious car park in the front.

Good spot to chill if you have spare time.
