General Overview and Architectural Design

Hoang Van Thu Bridge is one of Hai Phong’s most iconic and modern landmarks. It serves as a vital transportation link, spanning the Cấm River and connecting the old city center (Hồng Bàng District) with the new administrative and urban development area to the north (Thủy Nguyên District).

  • “Seabird’s Wing” Design: The bridge’s most distinctive feature is its spectacular architectural shape, which was inspired by a graceful seabird’s wing. The unique, curved steel tube arch design makes it a striking visual masterpiece, symbolizing the dynamic growth and “flight” of Hai Phong, the port city.

  • Engineering Feat: Completed and opened in October 2019, the bridge is an impressive piece of modern Vietnamese engineering. Its main span of is currently the largest arch bridge span in Vietnam.

  • Dimensions: The bridge is approximately long and wide, accommodating four motor lanes, two mixed lanes, and pedestrian sidewalks.

Cultural Significance and Tourist Experience

Hoang Van Thu Bridge is more than just infrastructure; it is rapidly becoming a popular destination for tourists and photographers.

  • Symbol of Modernity: It is recognized as the starting point and a key component of Hai Phong’s ambitious plan to relocate its administrative and political center, marking a significant step in the city’s urban expansion and modernization.

  • Nighttime Spectacle: The most recommended time to visit is after sunset. The bridge is equipped with an advanced LED lighting system that illuminates the structure in vibrant, changing colors. This dazzling display creates breathtaking reflections on the Cấm River, making it a favorite spot for evening strolls and photography.

A chill place every evening. Watching the sunset at Hoang Van Thu bridge is really beautiful. The color photos are beautiful. One thing that has not been resolved is the rampant shops at the foot of the bridge in the evening, and people block the road with their vehicles so they have to park. I hope the city will handle it more thoroughly. Otherwise, after a few days, it will be back to the same. A very bad image. Oh, everyone, don't stop your vehicle on the bridge to admire the scenery. You will get caught 🤣
