Paradise Cave (Động Thiên Đường) lives up to its name, captivating visitors as one of the most stunning, accessible caves in the UNESCO-recognized Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park. Discovered by a local man in 2005 and later explored by the British Caving Research Association, the cave stretches for an astonishing 31.4 kilometers, solidifying its status as Asia’s longest dry cave. This natural wonder offers a breathtaking subterranean experience, often referred to as an “Underground Palace.”

A Journey Through Geological Time

Millions of years of water erosion created this immense cavern, resulting in a mesmerizing display of geological art.

  • Spectacular Formations: Visitors immediately notice the sheer scale of the chambers. The interior reveals colossal stalactites and stalagmites that glitter under expertly placed, non-intrusive lighting. These formations resemble fantastical shapes, including pillars, terraces, and figures, allowing your imagination to run wild.

  • The Wooden Walkway: A sturdy, 1-kilometer-long wooden path provides easy and safe access into the cave’s deepest publicly available section. This walkway allows guests of all ages and fitness levels to comfortably explore the vast space. You will find the cave’s temperature much cooler than the tropical exterior, providing a welcome respite from the heat.

  • The Skylight (Giếng Trời): For serious adventurers, organized tours venture beyond the public boardwalk for a 7-kilometer trek. This deeper journey features stream crossings and culminates at the Skylight (Giếng Trời), a doline where a shaft of natural light dramatically pierces the darkness, illuminating the pristine chamber floor.

Visitor Experience and Access

The process of reaching Paradise Cave itself makes for a memorable experience, combining mountain scenery and a short trek.

  • Getting to the Entrance: From the parking lot, visitors can take an electric buggy (for a small fee) along a 1.6-kilometer paved road through the lush forest to the base of the mountain. Then, a short, upward trek leads you up approximately 500 steps to the cave entrance. This final climb offers picturesque views before you plunge into the cool darkness.

  • Best Time to Visit: We highly recommend visiting during the dry season, generally from February to August. During this period, you will enjoy stable weather and comfortable trekking conditions. Conversely, the rainy season (September to November) can bring higher humidity and cooler temperatures.

Essential Visitor Information

Plan your trip effectively to ensure a seamless visit to this spectacular site.

We loved exploring paradise cave! It is a bit of a hike to get up there so wear good shoes. It can also get very slippery inside, we saw someone fall down so use the handrails and watch your step. It was a really great experience overall.

There are better places.

Paradise Cave itself is breathtaking—a true natural wonder that deserves respect and preservation. Sadly, the overall experience is undermined by how it’s managed.

Tickets are quite expensive for what you get. After purchasing, you can take an electric golf cart to the trailhead, then hike about 500m uphill to reach the cave entrance. While the cave is worth the effort, the way it’s operated takes away from the experience.

We didn’t join any tour, but it was clear that the company running the cave prioritizes quantity over quality. They schedule too many tours at the same time, causing congestion and chaos inside the cave. To make matters worse, many visitors block the narrow walkways to take endless photos and group pictures, which only adds to the crowding and frustration.

Instead of the peaceful, awe-inspiring experience you’d expect, it often feels stressful and overwhelming. The atmosphere is loud, unorganized, and lacks any real crowd control. It’s disappointing to see such an extraordinary place treated more as a money-making venture than a site to be protected and appreciated.

Paradise Cave is stunning and absolutely worth seeing—but be prepared for high ticket prices, overcrowding, and inconsiderate behavior that take away from its natural beauty.

This cavern is huge and extremely beautiful. This cave is the longest in Asia spanning 31 Km in range, but for everyone to sight see only 1 Km opened. You can book a tour in advance that will take you to 2 caverns a day. The cave is very big, you can have a look around inside and enjoy the view. There's an expedition for 7 Km part of the cave, it's a one day tracking expedition. If you love cave exploration taking the 7 Km tour is going to be fun.

If you want the best experience. Get here at eight am or last thing in the afternoon and you’ll have the place to yourself. Get here any later and there are literally hundreds of people in very noisy tour groups as it’s easily accessible by all. Really big cave that almost looks like it’s a gallery made by the gods to display there creations. Highly recommend. While it might not be as Epic as Son Doong or have the adventurous fun of Hang Va I think this is probably the most beautiful cave of all. It’s a relatively easy uphill hike on a sealed path, then there is one km of board walking inside the cave, every step has something stunning to look at.
