Song Hau Park: Experience Cần Thơ's Leisurely River Life

Song Hau Park (Công viên Sông Hậu) stretches along the banks of the mighty Hậu River, one of the main tributaries of the Mekong Delta. This large, open green space provides a vital recreational area for the city and offers visitors sweeping views of the river. The park’s location in the Cái Khế ward makes it easily accessible and a key focal point for both daytime relaxation and nighttime fun.

Address: 2QXR+Q95, Cái Khế, Ninh Kiều, Cần Thơ, Vietnam.

I. A Riverside Haven and Natural Beauty

The park primarily functions as a tranquil escape from the urban hustle. Its position directly on the river bank allows for a constant, refreshing breeze, making it an ideal spot during Cần Thơ’s warm days.

  • Scenic Views: The walking paths run along the embankment, offering beautiful vistas of the Hậu River and passing boats. Visitors can enjoy a serene sunset or simply watch the flow of life on the water.

  • Green Space: The park features numerous shady trees, lush green lawns, and well-maintained flowerbeds. These elements create a peaceful atmosphere for relaxing or picnicking.

  • The Beach Area: The park area also includes a notable section known as Cần Thơ Beach (Bãi tắm Cần Thơ), an artificial sandy area built along the river. This section offers recreational water activities, allowing visitors to enjoy a ‘beach’ experience deep in the Delta.

II. Activities and Evening Vibrancy

Song Hau Park truly comes alive in the late afternoon and evening, transforming into a center for exercise, youth culture, and dining.

  • Recreational Activities: Locals frequently use the park for jogging, walking, and simple outdoor exercises. Families often fly kites on the open lawns, and young people gather for roller skating and cycling.

  • Nightlife and Markets: The proximity to the river and nearby districts facilitates a vibrant night economy. The adjacent Trần Phú Night Market (Chợ đêm Trần Phú) opens in the evening, offering a variety of local street food (ẩm thực đường phố) and shopping opportunities. This combination of park and market creates a bustling social atmosphere.

  • Events and Gatherings: The expansive space often hosts large-scale city events, festivals, and cultural performances, making it an important venue for public life in Cần Thơ.

III. Essential Visitor Information

We advise all travelers to note these practical details for a smooth visit.

  • Entrance Fee: Admission to Song Hau Park is free of charge.

  • Opening Hours: The park is generally an open space, accessible 24 hours a day. However, specific paid attractions, like the Cần Thơ Beach area, may have defined operating hours, typically closing late in the evening (e.g., around 11:00 PM).

  • Best Time to Visit: We recommend visiting during the late afternoon or evening. The reduced heat and the lively night atmosphere provide the best experience.

  • Facilities: The park offers benches, walking paths, and easy access to nearby dining options.

  • Contact: Navigate to the Cái Khế area near the Hậu River embankment. Using the provided address: 2QXR+Q95, Cái Khế, Ninh Kiều, Cần Thơ, Vietnam, will guide you directly to the location.

This majestic playground provides most urban residents with spacious atmosphere, fostering relaxation as soon as people have done their work. Despite my several times to this destination, I always felt that there were something accustomed to my vibe, but I could not unfold under words and speech.

Good place for neighborhood's leisure. However the floor is still very slippery when getting wet.
