A Cultural Hub: The Japanese Retail Experience

Takashimaya’s arrival in 2016, housed within the sleek Saigon Centre complex, was a landmark moment for Ho Chi Minh City’s retail scene. It introduced a distinctly Japanese standard of service, quality, and meticulous presentation, offering a shopping experience that is vastly different from local markets.

  • Refined Design: The multi-story department store is known for its spacious, well-lit interiors, clean aesthetics, and thoughtful layouts, making it easy to navigate. The design philosophy focuses on sophistication and comfort, providing a serene escape from the city’s intense heat and noise.

  • Premium Brand Curation: Unlike malls that feature a mix of brands, Takashimaya is carefully curated, with a strong focus on high-end beauty, fragrances, fashion, and lifestyle products, featuring both top international and premier Japanese brands making their debut in Vietnam.

The Global Gastronomic Basement

One of the most popular areas is the subterranean floor, which serves as a vibrant culinary destination.

  • Foodie Paradise (B2 Floor): The lower levels are a spectacular concentration of high-quality dining options, from gourmet supermarkets like Annam Gourmet Market to trendy coffee shops and a plethora of specialized Asian and international eateries. It’s the place to find imported goods, artisanal chocolates, and unique treats.

  • Vertical Dining: Beyond the basement, the upper floors (L5 and L6 of Saigon Centre) house elegant, full-service restaurants, including a rooftop garden area in the wider complex that offers fine dining with a stunning panoramic view of the city skyline.

Essential Visitor Information

  • Location: Located within the Saigon Centre complex on Lê Lợi Street in District 1, making it a perfectly central stop just a short walk from Ben Thanh Market and Nguyen Hue Walking Street.

  • Operating Hours: Generally open from 9:30 AM to 9:30 PM (and often extended until 10:00 PM on weekends).

  • Admission Fee: Entry is free.

  • Culture Note: While the atmosphere is upscale and prices are generally fixed, the store offers excellent amenities, including pristine restrooms, a comprehensive customer service desk (often assisting with VAT refunds for foreign customers), and even a dedicated nursery room for parents. It serves as a great “comfort break” stop during a busy day of sightseeing.

Good mall, but the lift system causes a lot of confusion. The lifts are meant for elderly people, yet everyone uses them. The mall has many great shops, but only brands with “Made in Vietnam” items are truly affordable. For example, Uniqlo clothing is much cheaper here because of the “Made in Vietnam” tags compared to all other countries I have visited.

This is a really nice shopping mall with a great mix of options. It has plenty of luxury brands for those looking for high-end shopping, but also a good selection of more affordable stores, making it accessible for everyone. A great place to browse, shop, and spend some time indoors!

Takashimaya in Saigon Centre Mall is great for hassle-free shopping, with plenty of cool air to escape the heat.

The mix of departments is pretty good, some international and some local. There's an optician down in the basement level if you need glasses or lenses sorted .. very quick .. and vwry reasonable prices.

It is on of the biggest department store in Ho Chi Minh in district one. It is spread over five floors. There is a wide range of products available for shoppers like cosmetics, shoes, bags, jewelry, household items, sports shops, hair n nail salon, branded eyewear, fragrances, handbags and shoes. Most of shops are medium brands except Hugo Boss and Ralph Lauren. Beside there is a huge food court and small cafes and bakeries. It’s open from 9.30 am to 10 pm.
Worth visiting...
