Khu di tích Chiến thắng Tầm Vu: Hậu Giang’s National Historical Relic

The Tầm Vu Victory Monument (Khu di tích Chiến thắng Tầm Vu) stands as a profound testament to the bravery and resilience of the Vietnamese people in the early years of the First Indochina War. This nationally recognized site commemorates the four major Tầm Vu battles, fought by local forces against the French colonialists between 1946 and 1948. Today, the site combines historical preservation with a relaxing eco-tourism experience, making it an essential stop for visitors in Hậu Giang (Hau Giang) Province.

Address: Khu di tích Chiến thắng Tầm Vu, WM7X+FQW, QL61, Thạnh Hoà, Châu Thành A, Hậu Giang, Vietnam.

I. History and Commemoration

The Tầm Vu area witnessed fierce combat, marking a turning point in the local revolutionary history. The fourth and most famous battle in April 1948 stands out for the strategic victory, which resulted in the capture of a vital 105mm artillery cannon—the first of its kind seized nationwide.

  • National Recognition: The Ministry of Culture and Information recognized the location as a National Historical and Cultural Relic in 1991, ensuring its preservation for future generations.

  • Site Features: Visitors explore a vast complex spanning over two hectares. The area prominently features a towering victory monument, alongside a massive bas-relief that depicts scenes from the historic battles. You can also see the actual 105mm artillery piece captured during the Tầm Vu IV battle displayed in the monument’s garden.

II. Eco-Tourism and Local Culture

The relic site strategically integrates historical education with the natural environment of the Mekong Delta, providing a peaceful and engaging experience.

  • Museum and Exhibits: The site includes a dedicated exhibition house or museum. This allows guests to view thousands of artifacts, images, and documents that detail the combat strategies, daily lives of the soldiers, and heroic stories from the resistance against both the French and American forces.

  • Relaxing Landscape: The monument sits within a lush ecological area. Here, travelers enjoy the serene surroundings, complete with lotus ponds, ornamental gardens, and tropical fruit orchards. This natural setting encourages quiet reflection and offers ample opportunities for photography.

  • Cultural Activities: Many visitors enjoy local leisure activities like fishing, taking small boat tours, and listening to Đờn Ca Tài Tử (Don Ca Tai Tu)—a form of Southern Vietnamese folk music recognized by UNESCO.

III. Essential Visitor Information

Since the monument is easily accessible via National Highway 61 (QL61), it attracts travelers passing between Cần Thơ and Hậu Giang.

  • Entrance Fee (Giá vé vào cổng): Access to the Tầm Vu Victory Monument is generally free of charge, though some specialized eco-tourism services within the wider area might charge a small fee.

  • Opening Hours (Giờ mở cửa): The site typically welcomes visitors daily from early morning until late evening (often 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM). We advise checking with local sources for the exact museum hours.

  • Contact Information (Số điện thoại): You can contact the Hậu Giang Tourism Information Center for up-to-date details. Their email is [email protected].

  • Transportation: The site is located about 17 km from Cần Thơ City. You can hire a taxi or a local motorbike taxi (xe ôm) to reach the monument via National Highway 61.

The entire French expeditionary regular army pulling cannons on a march was bullied by some men carrying bamboo poles and then even had the cannons pulled back by buffaloes. You can see how humiliated the French men and the Dam women who followed them were!

Record the heroic victory of the Hau Giang people. This place also has an airy space, suitable for people to exercise in the morning. Opposite in the afternoon, there is grilled beef with betel leaves for sale, very delicious.
