Thạch Động (Stone Cave) is located in Mỹ Đức Commune, Hà Tiên City, standing as one of the region’s most famous natural and spiritual attractions. This towering, solitary limestone karst mountain rises approximately 90 meters from the surrounding plain, offering a unique blend of geological wonder, Buddhist devotion, and local folklore. It is highly regarded as one of the “Ten Scenic Views of Hà Tiên” (Hà Tiên Thập Cảnh), specifically known as Thạch Động Thôn Vân (Stone Cave Swallowing Clouds) because, at dawn, white clouds often thread through its openings.

Thạch Động holds profound cultural and historical significance. Centrally located within the mountain cave is the ancient Tiên Sơn Pagoda (Immortal Mountain Pagoda). Monks established this serene place of worship in the late 18th century, dedicating it to the worship of Shakyamuni Buddha and Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara (Quan Thế Âm). The cool, peaceful atmosphere inside the cave makes the pagoda a perfect spot for spiritual reflection.
Furthermore, local culture ties the cave directly to the classic Vietnamese fairy tale, Thạch Sanh. According to the legend, the hero Thạch Sanh rescued the imprisoned princess from a monster eagle that made the cave its lair. Locals also remember the site for its somber historical significance: in March 1978, it was the location of a tragic massacre of 130 civilians during the Khmer Rouge border attacks, serving as a historical testament to the struggles endured by the people of the Southwest border region.
