Thiên Phúc Đức Hill (Đồi Thiên Phúc Đức): Da Lat's Untouched Paradise

Thiên Phúc Đức Hill (Đồi Thiên Phúc Đức) stands as one of Da Lat’s most treasured natural gems, offering breathtaking, panoramic views of the city, the surrounding pine forests, and the majestic Lang Biang mountain. Located approximately 6 to 7 kilometers north of the city center in Ward 7, this destination attracts serious cloud hunters, campers, and photographers seeking authentic, unspoiled landscapes.

The Cloud Hunting Phenomenon

Thiên Phúc Đức Hill is famous as a premier spot for “cloud hunting” (Săn mây), which provides an unforgettable visual experience.

  • Early Morning Spectacle: Visitors often arrive between 4:00 AM and 5:00 AM. They watch as a thick blanket of fog and clouds gracefully covers the valley below, making the city lights and surrounding peaks appear like islands floating in a heavenly sea. The rising sun dramatically illuminates this cloud cover, offering spectacular photographic moments.

  • The Lonely Pine Tree: A distinguishing feature of the hill is the iconic “Lonely Pine Tree,” a solitary tree standing proudly against the expansive backdrop. The tree provides a popular and romantic focal point for photos and deep reflection.

Visitor Experience and Activities

Since Thiên Phúc Đức Hill remains a relatively untouched natural site, it primarily provides simple, yet profound, outdoor experiences.

  • Sunrise and Sunset Views: Beyond the morning clouds, the hill offers equally stunning sunset views, when the sky frequently turns purple and orange above the illuminated greenhouses of Da Lat below.

  • Camping: Many adventure lovers choose to camp overnight on the hill’s relatively flat summit. Camping allows participants to experience the starlit night sky and guarantee their spot for the morning sunrise spectacle. You must remember to bring warm gear and all necessary supplies.

  • Nearby Attractions: You can easily combine a trip to Thiên Phúc Đức Hill with visits to nearby local attractions, such as the authentic strawberry farms in Ward 7.

Practical Visitor Information

  • Address: Đồi Thiên Phúc Đức, Phường 7, Da Lat, Lâm Đồng, Vietnam.

  • Entrance Fee: The hill does not charge an entrance fee, as it is a natural, unexploited attraction.

  • Parking: Visitors usually park their motorbikes or cars at the foot of the hill (sometimes for a small fee, typically around 10,000 VND) before walking the final stretch to the peak.

  • Operating Hours: The hill is technically open 24/7, which accommodates overnight camping and pre-dawn visits.

  • Tips for Visiting: Wear very warm clothing, including gloves and scarves, as temperatures are near-freezing before dawn. Bring an umbrella to shield against heavy morning dew and fog. Always remember to actively collect and remove all trash to preserve the hill’s pristine state.

It’s really beautiful and a peaceful hill.
I wasn’t really lucky with the weather and couldn’t see any clouds but it was still an amazing experience

How to get there:

I was a bit lost since I arrive early in the dark (for sunrise)
So here are the coordinates of the hiking trail
Entrance: 11° 59' 38.391" N,
108° 25' 40.9076" E
Peak: 11° 59' 41.4276" N, 108° 25' 42.0881" E
From there you can walk 3 directions depending on what view you want.
The walk is really short (just a few mins)

Great place for camping, you can rent your gear in town and get here easily on a bike. Just watch out for the dog that comes to sniff your tent in the middle of the night😅

Really beautiful in the early morning. We went around 5.00am and at 6.00am the mist covered everything. You can park the bike at the small cafe on the corner at the base of the hill. The hill up is really steep. You can come back down an easier way, about 5 minutes walk up the road from the cafe.

We came for the sunset and waited there for a while it was a really nice atmosphere!! A tiny hike up the hill but we did the rest by motorbike 🏍️. Our sunset view was ruined by clouds but it was still amazing!

Not too difficult to reach.
The view is really nice, you can go there for camping and enjoying the sunrise & sunset.
I also saw rubbish there, maybe there was someone coming and leave there. So, remember to take rubbish with you after coming to the hill for a cleaner view :D
